Excerpt from an NPR radio broadcast
...our final destination: the sunken Hoag gallery, the domain of only two artists: painter David Linn and sculptor Laurel Swab, the single most impressive space in the Sangre's current lineup. Linn's earth-toned reddish-brown oil paintings inhabit a bizarre world of symmetry and confusion: where the occasional appearance of the human male happens without eyes to see- as eternal struggle is the order of the day. His dreamscapes are perhaps the most obsessively rendered works in a series of galleries filled with obsessive works. Even as he exposes his troubling universe, Our eyes and brain are drawn to these studies of rocks and foliage that in their most fascinating guise are close enough to touch even as they diminish into infinity of image.
